Republican candidate for First District house seat Jim Hagedorn spends the day in Houston county

By Daniel E. McGonigle, The Caledonia Argus - Jim Hagedorn, Republican candidate for the seat in the first district has been busy touring the district and meeting with voters.

On Friday, March 26, Hagedorn spent the day in Houston County.

“We’re just getting over here talking with voters,” he said. “We think this is a county that we can carry in 2018.”

Hagedorn, who hopes the third time is a charm (he has ran in the first district the past two election cycles) was within four-tenths of one percent of defeating incumbent Tim Walz in 2016.

“We’re hearing nothing but positive things about our campaign,” he said.

Immediately following the 2016 election, Hagedorn began campaigning full time for 2018.

“With Walz out and the seat ‘open’ MN-1 has become the Republican Party’s best U.S. House pick up opportunity in the country,” said his campaign adviser.

Highlights of Hagedorn’s 2018 “momentum toward victory”

• The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has targeted MN-1 for Republican pick up and has named Hagedorn as “On the radar” candidate for the young guns program.

• Hagedorn raised over $500,000 in 2017, with roughly $300,000 in cash on hand.

• Hagedorn has continued his signature ‘retail campaigning’ across the first district. In 2017 alone, Hagedorn walked in 50 parades, attended all 21 county fairs and made hundreds of Main Street campaign stops across southern Minnesota.

• The Republican party is unified behind the Hagedorn campaign, as evidenced by endorsements from distinguished national, state and districtwide GOP officials and activists.

Will work to:

“As a congressman, I will work to keep America safe, expand the economy with good jobs, defend agriculture and our rural way of life, care for our veterans and protect our God given rights,” Hagedorn said.

The Blue Earth native said he welcomes anyone to reach out to his campaign with comments or concerns.

“Gaining your views makes me a better informed candidate and helps prepare me to properly represent you in congress,” he said.
