- Hagedorn calls upon Walz to vote against and defund Obama’s unlawful gun grab -

Blue Earth, MN – Republican First District congressional candidate Jim Hagedorn issued the following statement in response to today’s announcement of proposed new federal gun control regulations by President Barack Obama.

As a passionate defender of the 2nd Amendment right of law-abiding citizens to Keep and Bear Arms, as well as the authority of Congress to write our nation’s laws, today’s announcement by President Obama of his intention to implement new federal gun control regulations was disturbing.

Rather than targeting law-abiding Americans exercising their inalienable right of self-protection, the President's team should focus upon apprehending and prosecuting gang members, illegal alien criminals and others who misuse guns.

I call upon Rep. Tim Walz to join me in opposing the President’s illegal executive action and I challenge my opponent to take every legislative step to block the new rules or prohibit the expenditure of federal funds to implement them.

After bypassing Congress in dictatorial fashion to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, impose global warming rules to bankrupt America’s coal industry, and inflict devastating EPA regulations upon southern Minnesota’s farmers, who can be surprised with President Obama’s new gun control edicts?

Evidently, with this President and his Democrat followers, including Tim Walz, the ends justify the means. The liberal Democrats continue to exhibit a complete lack of respect for our Constitutional Republic and the rule of law.

Under the Constitution, Congress is responsible for writing our nation's laws.  That’s why I support returning rule-making authority to the legislative branch. Recently, Rep. Walz voted against a bill to enhance congressional authority (the REINS Act) and he has voted on countless occasions to support and finance President Obama’s EPA, amnesty, global warming and other lawless regulations.

The “firearms” issue will continue to play a central role in this campaign for Congress. Hillary Clinton, who Tim Walz endorsed for president, has proposed gun control policies even more radical than President Obama’s.

Southern Minnesota’s rural-oriented voters are likely to reject the Democrat Party’s extreme anti-firearms agenda and embrace the pro-2nd Amendment platform the prospective Republican presidential candidate and I will champion as a unified team throughout the campaign.
