The recent terrorist attack in San Bernardino brought much-need scrutiny to the flaws in our current visa program.
Lost in the discussion however, has been the fact that we still don't have control of our borders, and if ISIS has figured out how to game the visa system, you can be sure they've figured out how to infiltrate our country through porous borders.
It would be nice if we had a congressman who gets this. Unfortunately, our current congressman, Tim Walz, doesn't. He has not only failed to address this issue, he has even voted against proposals to deploy the National Guard to defend our borders. (He voted against HR 5230, 113th Congress, Session 2, Roll Call Vote #478.)
He's also in favor of granting amnesty to people who have overstayed their visas despite the fact that the San Bernardino shootings show that the current visa system is broke. (Walz voted against HR 240 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations 2015, 114th Congress Session 1, Roll Call Vote #35) which would have excluded appropriations to implement Obama's executive order which grants legal status to individuals who are here illegally on visa overstays.)
The number one job of the federal government is to protect American citizens from their enemies. It is obvious that Tim Walz doesn't get that. Since he doesn't seem to understand his most basic duties, it is equally obvious that it's time to replace him with a congressman that does.
