Campaign Racks Up Impressive Margins in Every Region of the First Congressional District

Blue Earth, Minnesota – Jim Hagedorn, Republican-endorsed candidate for Congress in Minnesota’s First Congressional District, secured a decisive 28 point primary night victory in amassing over 60 percent of the vote against Republican challenger Carla Nelson, who received 33 percent, with two other candidates splitting seven percent.

“I am humbled and honored to have been selected by Republican primary voters to carry our common-sense conservative message forward to the November election, said Hagedorn. “We will continue to build on the momentum of the primary by doubling our grassroots organization in every one of the 21 counties of the First District.

Hagedorn racked up large margins of victory in Blue Earth, Mower, Winona and Rice counties on the way to securing the Republican nomination. He cited his campaign’s focus on the issues of national security, tax and regulatory reform, securing our country’s borders, and defending our main street values and rural way of life as keys to victory. “Republican voters appreciate a campaign with robust discussion of the challenges facing our country, but equally as important to them is to be upfront, honest and straightforward when discussing the solutions you will bring to the table,” stated Hagedorn. “That is exactly what we did.”

In the 2016 election, Hagedorn received 49.6% of the vote against six-term incumbent Tim Walz, who is not seeking re-election to Congress. Minnesota’s First District is considered the best pick-up opportunity in the country for U.S. House Republicans.

“Working hand-in-hand with the First District Republican Party volunteers as well as the Republican Party of Minnesota field operations was a huge boost to our efforts,” Hagedorn commented. “From the door knocks to the phone calls to the parade participation to the person-to-person campaigning, this victory was a true team effort, and I’m excited to keep this team together as we work to secure victory in November,” Hagedorn concluded.
