- GOP candidate viewed fire damage and discussed rebuilding process with residents -

Blue Earth, MN – Republican First District congressional candidate Jim Hagedorn spent several hours on Friday visiting with Madelia business leaders and Watonwan County residents. Hagedorn said the purpose of his visit was to view damage from the recent fire that destroyed several of Madelia’s downtown buildings and to “let townspeople know that I am concerned.”

Hagedorn walked Madelia’s Main Street and visited 12 enterprises, including two banks, a bakery, the local Chamber of Commerce and the Madelia Times-Messenger newspaper.

At the Sweet! Indeed bakery Hagedorn shared a cup of coffee with businessman and former Mayor, Dale Williams, and wife, Shari. Later, Hagedorn visited the Madelia Chamber of Commerce and purchased a “Madelia Strong/Rebuild Madelia/We Have a Plan” t-shirt. Lastly, the candidate reviewed the fire damage with longtime Watonwan County resident Ray Knaak.

“I grew up on the Hagedorn family farm in Watonwan County and over the years my family and I have made many trips to Madelia and engaged in commerce. Sustaining our rural way of life is critically important for southern Minnesotans; so, whenever a smaller rural community faces a setback, especially one of this magnitude, it is concerning. But, after visiting with the leaders and residents today, I am more than optimistic Madelia will successfully rebuild and remain a strong community,” Hagedorn said.
