Minnesota U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn is focusing on helping his constituents get through the COVID-19 pandemic as strong as possible.

Representatives from Minnesota are working closely with Gov. Tim Walz, Hagedorn said.

“We’ve tried to meet the needs of Minnesotans wherever they might be,” Hagedorn said.

“I knew I needed some political clout,” Bucher said. “That was the only way to get out of this kind of thing.”

That clout came from the office of U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn of Minnesota. Bucher hadn’t received any help from the U.S. Embassy until Hagedorn’s office notified it of Bucher’s predicament. Julie VanZandt, a constituent services representative for the congressman, played a big role in his return.

The 65-year-old Bucher had been in the city of Medellin since January. His plan was to return home on April 1, but due to COVID-19, the city had been on lock down since early March. Bucher, who has heart issues, was starting to wonder if he would be able to get home in the near future.

Bucher was offered an evacuation seat on a flight last Monday for a journey that would ultimately return him home. But there were a number of obstacles to overcome. One was the travel restrictions in Medellin, a city of 3.5 million people.

‘Trying to do what we can’: Rep. Hagedorn Discusses Congress’s Role In Combating COVID-19

As COVID-19 continues to shut down much of the country, Americans are turning to their elected officials for solutions. State and federal leaders have put orders into effect to try to “flatten the curve” of coronavirus’s spread, but the situation is still far from over.

While health is a major concern, Rep. Jim Hagedorn (R-MN1) said the biggest concern he hears from constituents is related to the virus’s economic impact.

“People are wanting to know if they’re going to be able to get these bridge loans for their small businesses,” he told the Herald. “They’re also hoping to get the Paycheck Protection Program grant, and the government has $350 billion for that. And of course the people who are employed in those businesses

Congressman Jim Hagedorn of southern Minnesota and the entire Minnesota congressional delegation have sent a letter to President Donald Trump, urging the administration to approve the state of Minnesota’s request for a major disaster declaration because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Minnesota’s health care facilities are confronting a lack of needed supplies and limited capacity, which will be exacerbated by a limited number of qualified medical staff that is expected to decrease further as the pandemic continues to spread,” the group wrote. “At the same time, the state’s economy has been dramatically impacted by this crisis, with approximately 300,000 applications for unemployment having been filed since the pandemic’s onset, and businesses small and large facing sharp declines in revenues.”

The delegation asked that Trump issue an expedited major disaster declaration that will allow the state to access more federal aid for nutrition, medical care, crisis counseling, funeral services and Small Business aid, among other things.

Congressman Jim Hagedorn talks about the toll COVID-19 is taking on smaller hospitals

In Minnesota, First District Congressman Jim Hagedorn says he’s been working to help fast-track efforts by two Minnesota businesses to help fight the spread of COVID-19.

First, Hagedorn is pushing for F-D-A approval for new testing methods developed by Mayo Clinic and for medical face shields designed by Minnesota company Bedford Industries to be manufactured and supplied to medical providers across the region. Hagedorn is also urging increased allocation of resources to rural hospitals.

” Our rural hospitals when they forego treatments and procedures, things like that, they’re already on a shoestring budget. They’ll go broke over this if we don’t do something to sustain them and they’re making sacrifices,” says Hagedorn.

With the coronavirus pandemic forcing the cancellation of thousands of flights, a number of Minnesotans and other U.S. citizens now find themselves stranded far from home.

Anne Albers’s daughter Hannah is among those Minnesotans who was left stranded far from home by the pandemic. For Hannah, a long anticipated trip to Latin America quickly transformed into a nightmare. Isolated in the mountains of Peru, Hannah and her boyfriend Nick were caught off guard as the coronavirus swept the world. By the time they realized the gravity of the situation, Peru’s government had already moved to suspend foreign-bound flights.

Anne Albers said she did her best to reach out to the U.S. Embassy in Peru, but it was so swamped by calls that she wasn’t even able to leave a message. So she reached out to the offices of her members of Congress

Thank You To Our Political Leaders

Thank You To Our Political Leaders

As a small business owner who has seen government mandates severely impact my business, I would like to thank our political leaders at all levels for shelving politics and working together to help us minimize the economic pain we’re experiencing from the coronavirus.

In particular, I’d like to thank our Congressman, Jim Hagedorn, for joining with Rep. Chris Pappas, a Democrat from New Hampshire, and working together to add the Employee Retention Tax Credit the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package. Hagedorn and Pappas’s legislative initiative enables small businesses to keep their employees on payroll during this crisis and receive 100% of costs back in the form of tax credits.

With much of the region shut down due the coronavirus pandemic, Rep. Jim Hagedorn, R-Blue Earth, held a telephone town hall Friday devoted exclusively to the topic.

During the hour-long town hall, Minnesota’s 1st District congressman took questions from concerned constituents across the district. He directed some of those questions to two professionals who have been working overtime as of late to protect the health and livelihood of Minnesotans.

Those guests were Brian McDonald, who serves as the Small Business Administration’s acting Minnesota district director, and Deepi Goyal, who serves as an emergency medicine physician with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn used a telephone town hall meeting Friday to highlight how a $2 trillion legislative package passed last week by Congress can help businesses and employees weather the COVID-19 pandemic storm.

Near the end of the discussion, Carolyn, a retired nurse, wanted to know when it all would end.

The first-term congressman, who represents the state’s 1st Congressional District, said he couldn’t say precisely when people would be able to resume their
