Stauber, Emmer And Hagedorn Send Letter Urging Governor Walz To Release Federal Funding To Rural Minnesota

Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08), Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) and Congressman Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) sent a letter to Governor Walz requesting that he work with the state legislature to ensure federal funds that were provided by the bipartisan CARES Act are quickly and equitably distributed to local governments across greater Minnesota.

In their letter, the Congressmen said (in part):

“As you know, nearly eight weeks ago, Congress came together to pass the bipartisan CARES Act which was subsequently signed into law. Included in the CARES Act was funding that was disbursed to states based on populations outside of metropolitan areas. We ask that you quickly disburse the state and local government allocation to Greater Minnesota in an expeditious and equitable manner.

Hagedorn: Open Hospitals To Public Again

Congressman Jim Hagedorn of southern Minnesota had no idea that he had kidney cancer when he went to see his doctor for a routine visit in early 2019. But that checkup likely saved his life.

Hagedorn has subsequently been undergoing immunotherapy and says he is doing well. In fact, he is running for re-election this year.

Given his own experience, Hagedorn has become an advocate for reopening the nation’s hospitals and health care facilities to the general public amid the COVID-19 epidemic. He recently sent a letter, along with nine House colleagues, to the chairman of the National Governors Association, Larry Hogan, R-Md., encouraging states to establish guidelines for such a reopening

Lawmaker Seeks Protections For Small Pork Producers

US Representative Jim Hagedorn (R-Minn.), said in a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue that packer-owned hogs may be jumping the queue to meat packing plants ahead of hogs owned by independent pork producers.

“Packing-plant closures and disruptions have reduced production and created a backlog of market-ready hogs,” Hagedorn said in the letter. “This is expected to force the euthanization of up to 10 million animals, with the meat not processed and delivered to consumers.Making matters worse, it has come to my attention that packing plants may be engaging in discriminatory actions against independent family farmers by prioritizing the processing of packer-owned hogs.”

Hagedorn Asks Perdue To Stop Meat Processing Discrimination

It’s time to address the emerging disparity in processing market-ready hogs and make sure independent farmers are being treated fairly, Minnesota Rep. Jim Hagedorn said in a letter to USDA Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue on Friday.

“COVID-19 has inflicted unprecedented losses to the livestock sector, which has irreparably impacted countless producers and family farmers in Minnesota and throughout the nation. Many independent pork farmers are responsible for all input costs, putting them at grave financial risk if animals are not processed on-time,” Hagedorn wrote.

Celebrating The Oldest Veteran Living In Olmsted County

He’s lived through two pandemics, the first being the Spanish Flu, and the Great Depression but Kenneth Hoffmeyer has also served in two wars – World War 2 as well as the Korean War. Tuesday afternoon, Hoffmeyer added another milestone to his growing list – turning 105.

Kenneth Hoffmeyer was born in 1915 in a small town north of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The town, Corunna, according to Archive.org, had three schools, two mills, a hotel as well as a bank in 1914. His son, Mark, said his father grew up very poor with no working electricity, heat or plumbing. It was the draft, Kenneth says, that got him out of poverty.

Not only did Hoffmeyer ring his 105th birthday, but he also received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Representative Jim Hagedorn.

A member of the House Ag Committee is calling on Ag Secretary Perdue to look into meat processing discrimination.

Minnesota Republican Jim Hagedorn tells Brownfield it appears packer-owned hogs are getting a preference in processing at the expense of independent farmers.

“It’s putting unnecessary and unjust pressure, financial and otherwise, on (those independent farmers).”

Reps. Jim Hagedorn (MN-01), Tom Emmer (MN-06) and Pete Stauber (MN-01) are urging Gov. Tim Walz to let the current stay-at-home order fully expire on Monday, May 18.

The trio issued a joint statement Tuesday night urging the governor to “trust the final 10%” of Minnesota’s workforce that is still sidelined due to various executive orders.

The joint statement released by Hagedorn’s office is available in its entirety below.

“During today’s weekly Congressional delegation conference call – and as his Administration reviews the health and economic data prior to tomorrow’s anticipated announcement – we urged Governor Walz to allow the current stay-at-home order to expire in full on Monday

Time to Look at Both Sides of The Medical Ledger

Time to Look at Both Sides of The Medical Ledger

With one of us serving as a practicing surgeon and the other’s life being saved due to an accidental and unexpected medical diagnosis and prompt cancer treatment, we can both personally attest to the importance of regular checkups and treatments.

This is why we are both extremely concerned with the potential loss of life related to Americans being denied routine medical care or skipping doctor visits due to the coronavirus.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have learned the importance of keeping surfaces sanitized, wearing masks and social distancing. At this point, these practices have become almost second nature

Hagedorn Hears From Constituents In Radio Town Hall

First District Republican Congressman Jim Hagedorn listened to constituents’ concerns in a radio town hall on the COVID-19 pandemic Saturday morning.

Constituents were invited to call in with questions during the town hall. Media members could access the event in the listen-only mode online or listen on radio.

Perhaps one of the more significant subjects was blood donation.

“I encourage everyone to donate blood, especially if you’ve had COVID-19,” Hagedorn said.

Kansas Congressman Roger Marshall, M.D. was also part of the discussion and echoed Hagedorn’s thoughts.

“A little Coronavirus serum goes a long way,”

Local U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn is joining fellow lawmakers from across the Upper Midwest in requesting additional federal aid for pork producers hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hagedorn, who represents Jackson County in Congress, joined with around 50 other lawmakers in sending a letter last week to President Donald Trump requesting improvements to pork producer aid offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Coronavirus Food Assistance Program and additional support by opening up existing programs for pork producers.

Hagedorn said the supply chain for pork producers is increasingly strained due to the ramifications
