Hagedorn’s working for manufacturing, farm communities

MANKATO — We need to express our satisfaction with the introduction of H.R. 4469, “American Workforce Enforcement Act,” by U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn, R-1st District, and his support of the USMCA trade agreement.

H.R. 4469 is a bill, if passed, that would provide training for our workers to develop advanced skills so they could fill high paying, advanced manufacturing jobs.

Mexico and Canada are Minnesota’s largest trading partners for pork, turkey, corn, soybeans, dairy and medical devices as well as equipment and auto parts.

Dan Feehan Promotes Fake News about Congressman Jim Hagedorn

ROCHESTER — Feehan posted the retracted KAAL video news story about Congressman Hagedorn on both Facebook and Twitter. Feehan’s Facebook post states that “Congressman Hagedorn has proudly announced that he will vote against lowering the cost of prescription drugs” when in fact he has “championed several measures to make prescription drugs more affordable and also continue the research and development of life-enhancing and life-saving drug therapies,” Congressman Hagedorn said in a Facebook Post

Congressman Hagedorn supported a bill to “push lower-cost generic drugs to market” that was introduced by Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI). He even co-sponsored a bill that “expands low-cost drug options and generic competition, and funds community health centers and other public health programs, including a diabetes program.”

“Since Feehan is afraid to publicly voice his radical left wing views on impeachment, open borders, gun confiscation, socialized medicine and the Green New Deal, he personally attacks me and lies about my positions on the issues in an attempt to confuse and deceive the voters.” Congressman Hagedorn told Alpha News.

Letter: Rep. Hagedorn has supported several bipartisan bills since in office

ALBERT LEA – In response to Jennifer Vogt-Erickson’s My Point of View column, I would like to point out a few things as one of the high school students she mentions who was at the town hall. First, Jennifer stated Congressman Hagedorn has not supported any bipartisan legislation during his less than one year in Congress. This is egregiously false. Congressman Hagedorn was a co-author of a bill that passed the House with bipartisan support called the “Women’s Business Centers Improvements Act,” which was written with Democratic Congresswoman Sharice Davids of Kansas.

Letter: People were poor role models

ALBERT LEA – In response to Jennifer Vogt-Erickson’s column, I want to point her in the direction of the editorial written by the Austin Daily Herald editorial board. I saw the video of the town hall, and I was utterly appalled the entire time by how people were treating our Congressman Jim Hagedorn. Screaming, laughing and hushing were only a few of the ridiculous things protesters tried to do to throw Congressman Hagedorn off and prevent him from answering his constituents’ questions, which I thought is what they wanted him to do. How is he supposed to answer questions if he can’t even hear himself think? I am very impressed with the Austin Daily Herald editorial board for describing what really happened at the town hall when so often we see the media against Republicans and the issues they support.

Hagedorn’s dedicated to constituents

MANKATO — I want to thank my Congressman Jim Hagedorn for his dedication in keeping in touch with his constituents. Far too often, politicians traipse off to Washington only to be swallowed up by the Beltway, never to be heard or seen again.

Thankfully, Hagedorn has chosen to not fall into that trap.

If one looks on his Facebook page or follows the news, he comes back to our district every weekend and every recess to visit businesses, farms, manufacturing plants and schools. While other elected officials are off to who knows where, Hagedorn is in southern Minnesota continuing to talk with and learn about those he represents.

Struggling Farmers Are Key to Trump’s Hopes in Minnesota

Struggling Farmers Are Key to Trump’s Hopes in Minnesota

HENDERSON — Doug Wenner can’t remember a tougher year to be a farmer.

Record rainfall made it difficult to plant and harvest his crops. The trade war with China is now a factor keeping prices too low for him to make a profit on what he grew.

Many farmers in the rural Midwest are frustrated with President Trump’s trade policies. Yet in southern Minnesota, many who voted for him in 2016 plan to support him again next year, which would be key for Mr. Trump as he hopes to flip a state he narrowly lost in 2016.

“In my gut, I still think he’s doing the right thing,” said Mr. Wenner, 56 years old, who grows corn and soybeans on 2,500 acres and raises about 14,000 pigs in nearby St. Peter. “It just so happens we’re on the side that’s getting the short end of the stick.”

In Minnesota, trade tensions are testing farmers…

Dems should push to pass trade deal

MANKATO — As farmers, we are tired of hearing Democrats like Dean Phillips, Angie Craig and wanna-be Dan Feehan bemoan how concerned they are about the problems in farm country.

They say they care, yet they refuse to support the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the trade deal with Canada and Mexico, by far our biggest trading partners. The economic benefit of this agreement is huge to farmers like us.

These same politicos whine about trade wars, China and Rep. Jim Hagedorn. Here’s a thought: Instead of trying to score points to stay in the good graces of Nancy Pelosi, communicate directly with the speaker and demand she bring USMCA up for a vote.

Where’s support for ag?

To the Editor:

As a lifelong farmer and former long-term officer on the local corn, soybean and Farm Bureau boards, I believe one of the actions most needed by Congress to turn around our farm economy is getting the United States/Canada/Mexico trade agreement ratified. This agreement would be a big boost to Martin County, allowing exports greater and more efficient market access.

This trade deal was completed on Aug. 27, 2018; agreed to by all three countries on Nov. 30, 2018, subject to ratification by all three governments. On March 1, 2019, every major agricultural organization came out in favor of passing it quickly to help the struggling rural economy.

Did you know Mexico is No. 1 and Canada is No. 5 worldwide in both corn and pork imports from our country? What makes our Martin County economy prosper? Profits in pork, as the No. 1 pork-producing county in Minnesota and in the top 10 in the United States. Martin County also gains income from corn, with two large ethanol plants helping us get full-use value out of every bushel raised locally.
