A Minnesotan makes his third bid to build on his family's congressional legacy

By Alex Fischer, WBKT - News 8 talked with Jim Hagedorn, who is hoping to fill the vacancy left by incumbent Tim Waltz as the congressman for Minnesota's 1st district in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"We're running on the core policies of keeping America safe, and that means border security; it means peace through strength, things of that nature -- and then, making America prosperous," said Hagedorn.

Hagedorn learned about politics as a congressional liaison and congressional affairs officer. He also learned from his father, who was a congressman for eight years.

Hagedorn won the Republican primary for the position in 2014 and 2016, but lost to Waltz in the general elections those years.

This year’s primary is on August 14. The general election will be held on November 6.
