NATIONAL REPUBLICANS TARGET TIM WALZ, MN-CD1

Blue Earth, MN – The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has released a list of 36 U.S. House districts targeted for takeover in the 2018 election cycle. Included on the NRCC’s list is the Minnesota First District seat currently held by incumbent Democrat Tim Walz. (See attached NRCC press release.)

In 2016, Republican congressional candidate Jim Hagedorn came within 2,547 votes (0.76% of the 335,603 votes cast) of defeating Walz. The 50.3%-49.6% Hagedorn-Walz result was the 12th closet race in Minnesota’s history. Hagedorn has continued to campaign and is a candidate for Congress in 2018.

Republican Donald Trump carried Minnesota’s First District with 52.85% of the vote.

“Our campaign continues to build momentum from our razor-thin 2016 result,” said Hagedorn. “The NRCC’s targeting of Walz is another example of how the pieces are falling into place for victory in 2018,” he stated.

“Tim Walz has lost his grip on this district,” said Hagedorn. “Walz’s blanket support for the Obama agenda and his votes for failed policies like Obamacare, open borders, extremist EPA regulations and abortion-on-demand are at odds with the views and needs of First District residents,” Hagedorn said.

“By contrast, the bold solutions I champion to defend the United States and secure America’s borders, reform the federal government to spur economic growth, defend our rural way of life and protect our God-given rights reflects the beliefs and values of most southern Minnesotans,” Hagedorn concluded.
