First District Republican congressional candidate Jim Hagedorn called upon incumbent Democrat Tim Walz to renounce the policy of gun free zones on U.S. military bases and start working to repeal the Clinton era policy that effectively turns military installations and offices into soft targets for terrorists.
“How many more unarmed, defenseless active duty U.S. military men and women need to be slaughtered before Tim Walz retracts his support for gun free zones on military bases,” inquired Hagedorn. “U.S. service personnel deserve the opportunity to carry firearms and defend themselves,” he said.
“The tragic murder of four U.S. Marines in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is a harsh reminder that military personnel have become active targets for Islamic terrorists,” Hagedorn stated.
Hagedorn said he is perplexed as to why Walz, a former National Guardsman, clings to his radical gun control position, especially given the scores of military service members killed and wounded at Ft. Hood, Washington’s Navy Yard, Chattanooga and other military bases during Walz’s decade in Congress.
“The threats are real. Innocent lives are being lost. Tim Walz’s silence on this issue is deafening,” Hagedorn concluded.
