FORMER CONGRESSMEN GUTKNECHT & KLINE ENDORSE HAGEDORN
- Gutknecht: Jim’s southern Minnesota farm roots make him the perfect fit for MN-1 -
Blue Earth, Minnesota – The Friends of Hagedorn Committee today announced that former Congressmen Gil Gutknecht (MN-1; 1995-2007) and John Kline (MN-2; 2003-17) have endorsed Jim Hagedorn’s candidacy for Congress in Minnesota’s First District.
Congressmen Gutknecht and Kline are the most recent Republicans to have represented the geographic boundaries that constitute the current 21-counties of Minnesota’s First District.
“As someone who understands the demands of running three consecutive general election campaigns to win a seat in Congress, I applaud Jim for his perseverance and hard work,” said Congressman Kline, the former Chairman of the House Committee on Education and Workforce. “I endorse Jim because he stands for the commonsense solutions needed to solve the challenges facing America; he reflects the views and values of southern Minnesotans.”
“Jim Hagedorn surged to within an eyelash of defeating an entrenched incumbent in 2016,” said former First District Congressman Gil Gutknecht of Rochester. “Jim deserves much of the credit for making this an open seat. I endorse Jim, and am confident he will win in 2018. We simply need to give him the support he needs and deserves. Jim’s southern Minnesota farm roots and commitment to agriculture make him the perfect fit for our sprawling, largely rural district.”
“Gaining the full support of Congressmen Kline and Gutknecht is an incredible privilege that greatly boosts our grassroots campaign,” said Hagedorn. Receiving the endorsement of these two distinguished leaders inspires me to emulate their honorable service to our country, state and district.”
The Kline and Gutknecht endorsements build upon a long list of national, state and districtwide support received by Hagedorn for this high-profile open seat, considered the best U.S. House takeover opportunity for the Republican Party.
The Friends of Hagedorn Committee will periodically release its growing list of grass roots supporters which will include Republican County Chairs, Republican activists, members of Congress and state legislators from all 21 counties in the First District.
