HAGEDORN SEEKS 2016 REMATCH WITH WALZ
”He’s had 10 years and by every key indicator America is worse off. It’s time for a new voice.”

Blue Earth resident Jim Hagedorn today announced his candidacy for Congress in Minnesota’s First District.  Hagedorn, the Republican Party’s 2014 congressional standard-bearer, is seeking a general election rematch with incumbent Democrat Rep. Tim Walz.  Walz was first elected in 2006 and is serving his fifth term.

“I’m enthusiastically entering the race and will be working full-time to replace Tim Walz and bring a conservative, commonsense voice to Congress,” Hagedorn said. “My Minnesota farm roots and first-hand knowledge of how Washington, D.C. functions and dysfunctions will help me faithfully represent the views and interests of southern Minnesotans,” he said.

Hagedorn’s campaign will focus on several issues of concern to First District families:

  • Defending the United States and the American people from Islamic jihadists
  • Unleashing the economy and creating opportunity for working-Americans
  • Sustaining U.S. agriculture, family farmers and our rural way of life
  • Protecting the U.S. Constitution, America’s borders and small town values

“By any key indicator, the United States and the American people are worse off today than when Tim Walz was first elected in 2006,” Hagedorn observed. Tim’s had 10 years to make his mark, and failed. During this campaign I will aggressively contrast Walz’s counterproductive liberal record with my solutions to deal with Islamic terrorism, the stagnant economy and the other serious challenges facing our nation,” Hagedorn said.

Though outspent by a 6 to 1 margin in 2014, Hagedorn far out-paced expectations and earned the highest vote percentage (45.7%) against Walz since the incumbent was first elected in 2006. Hagedorn performed equal to or better than highly-bankrolled GOP challengers running in higher-profile races, in Minnesota and nationwide.

“Southern Minnesotans appreciate and reward hard work, and I will continue the town-to-town, handshake-to-handshake campaign we waged in 2014,” Hagedorn stated. “Our campaign team is larger, our fundraising stronger and my energy level is unlimited. It’s time to move our country in the right direction,” Hagedorn concluded.
